Serengeti National park is part of the larger Serengeti ecosystem that extend to other wildlife conservation parks and reserves that include the famous Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Maswa Game Reserve, the Loliondo, Grumeti and Ikorongo Controlled Areas and the famous Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. It is Tanzania's oldest and most popular national park, and recently it was recognized as a world heritage site by UNESCO.
Located in northern Tanzania, bordering Kenya to the north and Lake Victoria on the west; Serengeti is without a doubt among the top national parks in the world; with its vast open plains, valleys and hills full of wildlife that include the great migration, all the big five, over 450 bird species, zebra, giraffe, Thomson's, Grant's gazelle, eland, impala, klipspringer, hippo, warthog, crocodiles, hyenas, topi, kongoni and many more.
Activities at Serengeti national park are centered on morning and evening wildlife watching; other activities would include safari camping excursions, Masai cultural village tours, hot air ballooning, bush breakfast and dinners, nature walks, seminars and corporate retreats, educational trips and relaxation.

The best time to spot most wildlife is on the dry season, animal are easily spotted on the open plains and near rivers or water holes in search of food and water. In Tanzania the dry season are between January-March and July-October, this is the best time to spot wildlife. April, May and November are considered to be shoulder season with lesser wildlife compared to the high season. Bird’s watching is best in October – December and the great Migration is in Serengeti between December and June.
Note: - in order to exhaust all opportunity to view most wildlife, it is advised to spend at least three days in Serengeti. For photographers, the longer you stay the more chances are of getting the ultimate shot.
Serengeti is about 325 km from Arusha and it takes about 6 -8 hours by road or a 40-45 minutes via chartered/scheduled flight from Arusha , most parts of the road is okay except some sections which are dirt/Murram road. The best and easiest way is taking your international flight to either Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), which is about 46km from Arusha or to Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam and then taking a scheduled/chartered flight to Serengeti.
Alternatively, you can pick up a cheaper flight to Nairobi in Kenya, then take a direct chartered flight to Serengeti or take a shuttle bus to Arusha, then proceed to Serengeti.
