Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge is a luxury safari lodge located in the heart of the Taita Hills Wildlife, bordering Tsavo West national park to the east. It’s among the chain of hotels run by Sarova group of hotels; nicely set on a raised platform overlooking the vast Tsavo plains, taita hills and the waterholes that attracts wildlife close to the lodge.
Accommodation is in 96 unique deluxe and superior rooms that are beautifully decorated with African artifacts and furnished with a king/queen size bed, mosquito net, an en-suite bathroom, a dressing area, hair dryer, high ceiling fan and a lounge area.
Meals at Sarova Salt Lick Lodge are prepared from locally fresh organic products and spices, the menu combines African and western cuisines with additional fun dishes for kids. The meals are served at the main restaurant/dining area or on a private nicely set candle lite bush table (on request).
Facilities at Sarova Salt Lick Lodge includes a lobby and terraced bar overlooking the water hole, an underground tunnel and a bunker with ground level windows just next to the waterhole, a gift shop and a business center, Satellite TV, family rooms and a free form swimming pool on the nearby sister property Sarova Taita hills lodge. Additional services include laundry and baby-sitting services.
Activities include morning and evening game drives, guided nature and safari walks to Mzima springs to watch hippos and crocodiles, visit Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary and Lake Jipe, bush breakfasts, volcano climbs and bird watching trips, swimming and playing indoor/outdoor activities among other park activities.
The best and easiest way to get to Sarova Salt Lick Lodge is flying to Kilaguni or Hattons airstrip then a few minutes’ drive to the Lodge, there are chartered flights from Nairobi and Mombasa. By road is approximately 3 hours’ drive from either Nairobi or Mombasa.
Other attractions near Sarova Salt Lick Lodge would include going on a safari to the neighboring Tsavo East national park, Amboseli national park and Chyulu Hills. If time permits, you can extend your drive to Mombasa or Diani for a day or two on the beach.
Sarova Salt Lick Lodge is located in the middle of a very remote area; there are no modern shops or market places nearby; so it’s advised to buy all your essential items in major towns before traveling to Sarova Salt Lick Lodge.
