The camp is conveniently located about 4km from the Mara’s Talek gate and it’s on a central position that makes it ideal for game viewing while visiting the Mara. This is one of the few camps in Kenya where wild game can be viewed from the comfort of the tents.
The camp has a total of 17 tents and each tent is beautifully located along the River Talek’s edge and has great views of the open Mara plains and the natural landscape. For privacy purposes, the tents are positioned wide apart from each other.
The 17 tents hold about 30 guests and the most beautiful thing about Ilkeliani Camp is the attention to detail accompanying the personal service given to every guest. All the tents are solar powered, fully furnished and raised above ground to offer guests the ability to watch wildlife from the camp. The positioning of each tent under indigenous trees brings out the feeling of the pure Kenyan wilderness.
The camp has not been left behind as far as food is concerned; there are professional chefs that prepare candle lit dinners, alfresco lunches and breakfasts. For the guest who wants to spend the whole day out, the chefs prepare special picnic breakfast and lunch for them. As from 6pm, a camp fire is lit till late into the night and here guests get to share stories of the day while sipping their favorite drinks.
Ilkeliani Camp prides itself in having experienced local tour guides who will take you through the morning and evening game drives, nature walks along the river, historical and cultural tour to the Maasai villages, bird watching, hot air ballooning and bush dinning.
The simplest way to get to Ilkeliani Camp is by air. A chartered flight will start off at Wilson Airport in Nairobi and land at Ol Kiombo air strip. The air strip is 25 minutes away for the camp and is therefore accessed by road. It takes 4 ½ hours to access the camp by road from Nairobi.
Other attractions near Ilkeliani Camp would include visiting other private conservancies such us Mara North, Mara Olare Orok, Mara Naboisho and the Mara Confluence.
Ilkeliani Camp is located in the middle of a very remote area; there are no modern shops or market places nearby; so it’s advisable to buy all your essential items in the major towns before travelling to Ilkeliani mara camp.
