It is true that Budgeting for a Beach holiday can be a hustle and painful. We at Kentz Safaris have broken down the cost in three categories (accommodation, transport and destination), to make it easy for you while calculating your Beach holiday. The three categories determine your holiday cost and can vary quite substantially depending on what you choose.
Accommodation is most paramount when deciding your beach holiday budget, beside the class and reputation of a hotel; other factors that increase the cost of hotels include it's location; hotels and lodges that are located along the beach and on less crowded areas tend to cost more compared to the once in towns and away from the beach.
Transport is the other factor; private mode of transport and luxury chartered flight tend to cost more compared to shared minibuses, vans and overland trucks. And finally the high and low season; visiting a top beach destination on high season would cost more compared to low season.
Most top beaches in Kenya are well accessible, well-managed and clean; however beaches like Lamu, Malindi, Tiwi beach and Watamu are more quiet and secluded compared to Diani, Nyali and kilifi which are close to towns and have plenty of beach activities and can easily be combined with a city excursion. Beaches like Lamu, Malindi and Watamu are more ideal for people who want some time alone on honeymoon, private wedding and low profile beach holidays.
For beach holidays in Kenya, we strongly recommend our client to consult with their travel doctor to ensure they have appropriate vaccination and Malaria tablets. Also it’s important to have a travel insurance cover.
To protect yourself against sea urchins and sharp coral, it’s good to wear old or cheap shoes if you are visiting beaches with lots of sea urchins and coral.
For most beach destinations; simply pack plenty of beach and casual wear, the coastal region is said to be hot throughout the year with short rains in April-May, June-July are said to be cooler (about 25°C).
With this in mind, have a couple of long trousers and long sleeve T-shirts; for the evenings to prevent you from mosquitoes and the chilled evenings. Other important stuff would include a sunhat, sunglasses and a waterproof/windproof jacket, painkillers, Sun cream, insect repellents, a binocular and a camera with all its appropriate extras such as lenses and cleaner.
If you are traveling to areas that are predominantly Muslim society we strongly advise you to dress appropriate and respect their local customs.
