Mfangano Island Camp is a peaceful getaway situated on the shores of a small island west of Lake Victoria; it’s a very secluded area with beautiful African traditional cottages that are spread nicely on the beautiful garden and surrounded by giant fig trees. Mfangano Island Camp is an oasis of tranquility and relaxation, nicely set on the shores of Lake Victoria overlooking the lake and the beautiful tropical gardens; the structures are uniquely designed from the local materials mimicking the local Luo traditional houses with high thatched roof, smooth clay walls, large open windows and decorated with African artifacts.
Accommodation is in six spacious rondavels situated right on the lake-shore with stunning view of the lake and the beautiful surrounding, four of the rondavels have comfortable double beds and the other two have twin beds; each of them have an en-suite bathroom, a mosquito net, a dressing area and a private veranda with sunbeds where guests can relax.
The meals at Mfangano Island Camp are nicely prepared from local fresh products that include fresh salads, vegetables and freshly caught Nile Perch among other African and international cuisines. The meals are served at the open dining area overlooking the lake.
Hotel facilities at Mfangano Island Camp include a small Swimming Pool made of natural stone overlooking the lake, a cozy dining room and lounge area, an open sitting room with a bar and a dining room, a stunning family and honeymoon suite. Additional services include laundry and baby-sitting services.
Activities would include island excursions to watch birds and prehistorical sites on the island, visiting the local villages, fishing trips, trail and cultural walks, engage in some of the water-sport available or just relax and enjoy various spa treatments on offer.
The best and easiest way to get to Mfangano Island Camp; is via a chartered flight to Mfangano Island or a scheduled flight to Kisumu airport then drive to Mbita on lake Victoria where you will take a 30 minute speed boat to the Camp. By road from Nairobi is approximately 6 hours’ drive to Mbita then a 30 minute speed boat ride.

Mfangano Island Camp is located in the middle of a very remote and secluded area; there are no modern shops or market places nearby; so it’s advised to buy all your essential items in the major towns before traveling to Mfangano Island Camp. The closest major town is Kisumu town (about 1 hour road and boat trip).
