Rusinga Island Lodge is a wonderful private island lodge situated on Rusinga Island North West of Lake Victoria, it’s a small intimate Eco-friendly lodge overlooking the lake; it has very beautiful tropical gardens, comfortable accommodation and excellent services. It’s a perfect retreat for families, couples and small groups of friends who prefer to be out on a remote beach holiday.

Rusinga Island Lodge has 8 spacious and secluded Bandas/cottages set on an island overlooking the Lake, it’s a glorious hideaway surrounded by fig and palm trees, tropical gardens and un-spoilt lake waters; the Bandas are nicely designed and decorated entirely from local materials, with high thatched roof, large wood logs and large open windows.
The 8 cottages comprises of six self-contained cottages and a family room with an extra interconnecting rooms; each cottage has a king/queen size bed, en-suite bathroom, a dressing area, a living room and a private veranda.
The meals at Rusinga Island Lodge are nicely prepared from local fresh products that include fresh salads, vegetables and freshly caught Nile Perch among other African and international cuisines. The meals are served at the dining/mess area overlooking the lake, at the gazebo or on a special set candlelit table on the jetty.
Hotel facilities at Rusinga Island Lodge include a small Swimming Pool, a cozy dining room and lounge area, a sitting room, a bar, a spa and wellness area, a stunning family and honeymoon suite. Additional services include laundry and baby-sitting services.
Activities would include island excursions to watch birds and prehistorical sites on the islands, visiting the local fishing villages, fishing trips, trail and cultural walks, engage in some of the water-sport available or just relax and enjoy various spa treatments on offer.
The best and easiest way to get to Rusinga Island Lodge is via chartered flights to Rusinga island airstrip which is just adjacent to the lodge; alternatively take a scheduled flight to Kisumu airport then a 3 hours road and boat ride to the Lodge. By road, it’s a 6 hour’s drive from Nairobi and a 45 minutes boat ride.
Other attractions near Rusinga Island Lodge includes; visiting nearby wildlife national parks and sanctuaries, city excursion to major museums, zoos, historical sites, mosques, traditional markets in the region and hiking at Kakamega forest among other attractions in Kisumu.
Rusinga Island Lodge is located in the middle of a very remote and secluded area; there are no modern shops or market places nearby; so it’s advised to buy all your essential items in the major towns before traveling to Rusinga Island Lodge. The closest major town is Kisumu town (about 3 hours road and boat trip).
